British Transport Police Choose Beat Systems

 

The first mobile intelligence system used in the UK has been successfully piloted by British Transport Police.  Beat Systems secure mobile technology has uniquely delivered to the beat officer, access to secure intelligence information whilst out in the field.

 

The Problem…….

 

Police officers on the beat have no direct access to central intelligence information. This creates operational problems when attempting to acquire information on incidents, people or places.  The lack of this information inevitable results with the involvement of several additional staff who are centrally based accessing information via their desk top and relaying the information by radio to the officer on the beat.  This is less than ideal placing the insecure one way trafficking of information in audible form to officers whilst possibly in the presence of potential offenders.  Furthermore up-to-date information cannot be entered into the central system by beat officers rendering further desk bound administration work necessary.  Therefore the current process is inefficient absorbing considerable staff effort.

 

The Solution….. 

   

For the first time, a UK police officer can gain secure access to central intelligence databases to perform searches, enquiries and information updates whilst out on the beat.

 

The system is capable of working over Airwave or GPRS and using Beat Systems unique security profiling, unauthorised access is prohibited.  The solution has provided enormous benefits to the force allowing officers to perform many desk-bound duties when out in the field.  This has presented huge implications for improved efficiency within the force and will contribute to the growing pressure to increase visible policing.

 

Direct and secure access to the central intelligence system has provided officers with multi-media information in text, drawing and pictures thus allowing updates to be performed by the officer in real time.
